Entry Requirements into the Course:
There are no prerequisites to enter this training program. However, MBC Future Solutions screens students according to the following criteria:
Numeracy and Literacy
Language, literacy and numeracy requirements are needed to undertake this course. Specifically, students need the ability to:
- Prepare verbal incident reports or provide information to enable preparation of an incident report (e.g. a first aid report)
- Communicate effectively and assertively in an incident (e.g. give a casualty handover)
- Use literacy and numeracy skills as required in reading, interpret, and apply guidelines and protocols (e.g. read and follow ARC guidelines)
Physical attributes requirements
The unit of competency that this strategy applies to specifies that students must, among other things, be able to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor, in order to be deemed as competent. They also must be able to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.
Students must also be able to perform manual handling tasks safely.
Therefore, prospective students need to have the physical attributes to be able to:
- Bring themselves to floor level in order to perform the above task.
- Perform each of the above tasks uninterrupted for two minutes.
- Have the physical capacity to perform manual handling tasks safely.
Applicants aged 14 years old and above who meet the aforementioned requirements and possess a USI number may enrol in this course. Applicants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a full paying adult. (See this link on how to get a USI number).
Licensing, Legislative, Regulatory or Certification Considerations:
Refresher training in CPR must be carried out annually.
